Budapest workshop: an exploration of the capital of Hungary from a culturally sensitive point of view

This two-day workshop is designed for young foreigners staying in Budapest for a longer period of time for work, study, volunteering etc. The idea of the workshop has grown out of our experience that young foreigners staying in Hungary tend to have a relatively superficial and limited vision of the city and its residents. The aim of the workshop is to offer participants an insight into the deeper layers of the city, to allow them to discover places and venues outside of regular tourist routes and to help them understand the social and cultural development and transformation of the city and its society. The workshop includes a brief introduction to the history, society and culture of Budapest as well as practical exercises that help participants get to know the different social, cultural and historical realities of the city. The workshop is based on active group work and intensive interaction. The language of the workshops is English.

The workshop is made up of the following modules:
  • "real" and mental maps of Budapest
  • the history of Budapest and its urban development
  • the social development and present-day society of Budapest
  • present-day cultural representations of Budapest
  • research and presentations by participants
  • treasure hunt in Budapest

Next workshops: 19-20 November 2005

Participation fee: 3000 Ft/person

The workshops can also be organized on other occasions in case of an appropriate number of participants (minimum 9 maximum 20 people). For more information, please contact us by email, fax or phone.
