Our Leonardo project among the 12 best mobility projects of 2006
"Anthropology in Action", a Leonardo da Vinci project of Artemisszió Foundation organized in 2004-2005 was included in the 12 best mobility projects of 2006 by Tempus Public Foundation, the Leonardo National Agency of Hungary.

Justification by Tempus Public Foundation

The content of the project:

Since 1998, Artemisszió Foundation has used the tools and methods of intercultural learning with the aim of improving the conditions of socially excluded groups. Within the framework of the project, Anthropology in Action, anthropology students had the opportunity, first, to familiarize themselves with the anthropological practice of a European country and, second, to attain practical knowledge on the possibilities of applying anthropological knowledge in unconventional terrains. 19 young anthropology students participated in the 16-week internship at Portuguese, Spanish and French social and civil organizations.

Elements of exceptional quality

By providing practical internships for anthropology students, the project compliments and enriches the overwhelmingly theory-and-research oriented anthropology curriculum. Anthropology itself is in the process of transformation as it is underscored in the project description. Besides its original focus, namely, the study of distant cultural groups, new topics of interest have emerged in the discipline: the everyday social reality of minorities and the enhancement of peaceful coexistence of socially diverse groups. Consequently, the anthropologists' work is supplemented by new elements: doing intercultural work, fostering intercultural dialogue and supporting integration of immigrant and other minorities, all of which presupposes that anthropologists acquire intercultural experience. This is the gap to be filled by this project.

Excellent theoretical foundation, careful and thorough selection process and well-planned preparation characterize the project as a whole. The system added value of the project is to be felt within the anthropological profession; the studies prepared by the participants will surely be cited numerous times. The social-intercultural competences of the participants have improved to a large extent. In addition, the vocational placement proved to be useful in terms of individual career development as stated by the participants' reports.

Artemisszió Foundation has an extensive partner network due to its long-lasting experience in international project work, at the same time; they are also good at acquiring new partners.
