Its consequences are just as blurred. Some argue that globalization should be seen as a beneficial process bringing wealth to all people, while others claim that globalization increases inequalities even further. The question then remains: what is the effect of globalization on our lives and on the lives of others, living in different countries and continents? Even more, are we responsible for the faith of other people? Can we do something against global inequalities? This training uses interactive games to make young people familiar with the concept of globalization. Its aim is to illuminate real processes and thereby, make youngsters more sensitive to the issues of social justice, human rights and global interconnectedness. "What does it mean to be different?" - living together with diversity Not only are things surrounding us different, but also people with whom we live. Many of us like Turkish kebab and African American hip-hop music. Many of us shop in Chinese, Indian and Arab shops. Nonetheless, often our reaction to diversity and foreignness is fear and rejection. We do not dare to look at disabled people and we laugh at those with glasses. All of us have a personal "Other," whom we dread or whom we refuse. Our intercultural communication trainings aim to enable young people to realize that being different is not the trait of someone but rather it is the characteristic of human relationships. If we were all alike, it would possibly be a lot easier to live with and understand each other, on the other hand, we would certainly less things to talk about. "Changing the perspective" - communication and conflict resolution It certainly happened to all of us that we felt someone misunderstood us. On these occasions, we might think that we did not express ourselves clearly enough or we might assume that the other party is inattentive, dumb or even vicious. It is hard to understand that communication is not only about transferring information, but implicitly it concerns our worldviews, thereby defining our and the other's position in the world. In these situations, changing the perspective helps us getting closer to the Other and farther from conflicts. It helps to find a common point, where we only suspected an irresolvable conflict. Based on games using the personal experience of participants, this workshop enables them to understand the mechanisms of communication, strengthens their capability to pay attention and fosters creative problem - solving.
