At the gate of European Fortress: the role of the media in increasing social acceptance of refugees
Within the framework of N.E.E.D.S- Individually through Equal Chances, we organized a two-day training for journalists. The aim of this training was to familiarize journalists with immigration and refugee related matters, and to have them deeper understand the social mechanisms of exclusion and discrimination. Through role-plays, participants had the opportunity to personally experience discrimination and its effects. By analyzing articles, they could better understand the implicit layers of negative media images, thereby making their work more professional and socially sensitive.

The training dealt with the following issues:
  • current structure and future trends of migration in Hungary and Europe
  • historical, social, political and economic reasons of migration
  • situation of asylum seekers in Hungary
  • mechanisms of discrimination and anti-discrimination legislation
