News and eventsIntegration workshops and programs for refugee childrenIn a project financed by the Ministry of Culture and Education Artemisszió organized weekly programs and field trips for children between the ages of six and ten living in the Bicske Reception Center for refugees and asylum-seekers through the end of May, 2008.
All of the children involved in our programs live in the reception center (popularly known as "refugee camp") with their families. Although the local government and schools provide considerable support, the children and their parents still experience many disadvantages. Our project intended to fill some of these gaps. ![]() As for the programs we organized, among other things, the children visited the Budapest Zoo, saw a puppet-show, played with horses and learnt how to use a bow. Besides these trips we also addressed Hungarian traditions by visiting the Skanzen in Szentendre and painting eggs for Easter. For our programs, we recruited experienced psychologists, teachers and educators to hold regularly workshops for the fifteen children. The cooperation of professional educators was invaluable for the organization of drama workshops held in the Cultural Centre of Bicske. |
